Summer Park Haiku

Take a moment for wonder and look up the parks in your area! Use this google map search link for parks near you.

  • What do you notice on the map?
  • What words stand out to you?
  • What shapes do you see?
  • Do you know who or what your parks are named after?

Play with the words you noticed, and create a haiku to reflect your curiosities!

Here’s mine:

A “snug green space” at
Wheeler, Sennott, Joan Lorentz
Parks to play for free

An inviting freeform haiku! Thank you for taking a moment for wonder and sharing your poem @Julie

Former battlegrounds
Now hold space for peace
By the cherry trees

(one of our more notable parks was a Civil War battleground)

In and around Columbia, SC - here are my park haiku!
The stars on each map indicate where I took my inspiration. I researched Granby and learned some stuff about county history!

Granby, named after
a duke, first town in county,
now a stone quarry

Seven Oaks dip roots
Deeply in a Crooked Creek,
Providing cool shade
