Thanks for the replies @ada and @kslpl! When I did this program as a Florida Friday event at our main library, the maps were collaged; I thought that’s what people would do for this one, too (some staff did collage maps in training), so I got a ton of travel brochures from rest stops along the Florida Turnpike*.
I’d be happy to send you both a couple of the centennial maps because they really are cool; they fold up pocket-sized and have spaces for stamps on the back. They were drawn by a Jupiter High School alum, too! If you manage to get maps for your cities (especially Cambridge), I’d love to see them!
That said, Jupiter supplies us with loads of other maps like neighborhoods and parks; I used one for a blackout poem, and it came out really well! (I’m REALLY proud of the “red” section poem.)
I also completely forgot we had these maps during the program
And good news! We will be doing this again in the fall as part of our Storytellers’ Collective series of programs!
*Pro-tip: if your states have things like this, grab them I have brochures and maps from all over Florida, and I grab more every time I take the Turnpike. Even if they get outdated, they’re still extremely useful.
