Light-up gratitude cards

Here’s a prompt that works for any time of the year! Create a light-up gratitude card for someone you’re grateful for in your life.

  • Who did you make the card for?
  • What did you include on the card to express your gratitude?
  • What materials / colors / design did you choose and why?

Also share a photo of your card!

I created a card for my mother, using hearts and her favorite color (purple) to show my love and appreciation for her. I wrote a simple “I <3 U” message and utilized LEDs to illuminate the heart in the center.

Lightning bug card for a friend, because she lights up my day! 3 LEDs in parallel with green paper that flips out to see the circuit. Two pockets on the back to hold the battery: one that connects to the circuit, one that stores the battery when not in use.

After School Club and Paper Circuits. They were successful with the simple battery + light. We struggled with multiple lights and circuits. Nevertheless, it was a hit! Will try an official program with older patrons.

@achamberlin ! This is awesome!

Our interns also ran paper circuits for a similar age range this week, and yes that copper tape is difficult to work with. Keeping it (and letting them struggle through the process) does support having exposure with the concept of electronic circuitry much more than the ease of an LED with a battery. But that balance is tough, especially when it’s soooooo hard to see them be stuck. Do check out the alternative Fuzzy Circuits with Chenille Stems!

As much as I love seeing their delightful facial expressions, this forum is publicly accessible and we don’t have media releases for these charming learners. Some ideas: put the photos with faces on the Ambassador section of the forum, or crop out their faces and re-upload.

Thank you! Looking forward to hearing more at your share-out.
