Combining for Complexity: Tessellation Stamps

  • Share your tessellation stamp creations here, to inspire others!
  • What are other explorations you’d like to try to dive deeper into symmetry?

Here’s a screenshot of our workshop, with all of our creations to inspire others :scissors: :light_bulb:

Highlights from the workshop

  • :sunrise: Gail K. and Jennifer V. wondered about ways to incorporate traditional Hawaiian patterns and tattoos into a symmetry activity
  • :scissors: Jocelyn E. created multicolored quilting patterns from stamps
  • :tangerine: Amy C. is considering running an “Orange you glad” workshop to use oranges in printmaking, and brainstormed a few ideas for adult symmetry programs with ceramics and nature prints on tote bags
  • :books: Han K. stacked the craft foam to make it easier to grab the thin stamp
  • :seedling: Elizabeth W. made a book recommendation for nature symmetry, Swirl by Swirl by Joyce Sidman, for ages 4+, which is now on the Beautiful Symmetry activity page!

This was such a fun process to go through! I had a little ink pad available, so my first idea was a) not how I wanted it to turn out and b) too big for my ink pad. I pivoted to make a smaller stamp. I loved seeing everyone’s creatures come together! Maybe I’ll go back in and make all my Vs into critters with open mouths
