Bright Reflection Petals + Virtual Bouquet

We’re making a “virtual” bouquet! Combining our reflection prompts with paper circuits, create a reflection flower or plant (or insect!) of your choosing.

On a petal / leaf / wing, respond to these reflection questions, to think back to the past few months of creative learning:

  • What was your most memorable moment?
  • What do you feel like you learned?
  • What was challenging for you?
  • How are you feeling?

Here is my reflection flower!

  • my memorable moment was when the PLIX ambassadors shared via email all their different “calm palms” which was really inspiring for me to try different things to be calm myself.
  • I found it a bit challenging to try some ideas that I’m not always sure will work with people. Though it’s fun to see people take things in different directions!
  • I learned that I need to keep trusting the process. And I’m forever grateful that I work with people who are always willing to try new things.
  • I feel constantly amazed and inspired by the different directions that people take these PLIX activities and how they run them in their libraries.

Here’s a a screenshot of our different reflection flowers we did online together!

Even though I didn’t have the craft materials with me while teaching abroad this month, I took some time to write down my reflections from this first meeting.

A really memorable moment for me was seeing all the Zoom messages pop up during the presentations. It was so interesting to watch inspiration happening in real time, like when someone mentioned implementing the symmetry patterns for tote bag painting.

One thing I learned was how important it is to evaluate a community’s needs and how those needs can vary so much. Kit mentioned how community assessments were often used to get authentic feedback, which helps build better library programming and curriculum.

Being away from my college physically this month has been a bit of a challenge, and I’m excited to get back and be a little more hands-on with the crafts. Overall, I’m feeling really energized! It’s inspiring to hear about everyone’s different backgrounds, like how some of the ambassadors are teachers.

I was not confident in my flower construction abilities, so I tried this… tulip? rose??? thing. I wrote quick responses on the edges of my paper chunks, then rolled them up. Maybe not the best for revisiting, in hindsight! I’ve been very scattered this week, so I didn’t even get to the point of trying an LED. Next time!
