Hi my name is Carol Nelson. I work at the Anoka County Library System. I am in the smallest library of our system, which is an unique Place to be. Our library system reaches from the metropolitan area to the small town where I work.
I wanted to join this community to learn how I could bring in more STEAM programming to our library. I look forward to sharing ideas and learning from everyone.
Libraries have always been a place to share ideas, information and inspiration. I see more collaboration in the future.
For breakfast I have coffee, oatmeal and eggs.
My name is Annie Allen and I am a School Library Media Specialist working with students in grade 6-8 at Rogers Middle School in Minnesota. I heard about PLIX at a workshop last week and it sounded like a great opportunity to expand my training in STEAM activities so I can bring them to students as a part of our MakerSpace. I am excited to learn from everyone!
I work at the Rye Free Reading Room in Rye, NY. I live in NYC.
I canāt remember what motivated me to join this community, but Iām glad to have found it. I love professional development (learning, new challenges), creativity, library work and networking with new folks.
I dream of many well-supported pathways to the library profession and currently chair the Librarian Education Reform Discussion Group.
I love breakfast. Reading these intros makes me hungry. Since becoming recently pregnant with my second child, the craving of the week has been rolled oats with sliced dates and sunflower seeds. Went through a long phase with peanut butter toast (Daveās killer bread). Mouth started watered over farm fresh egg discussion, so count me in for any kind of morning quiche, egg sandwich, egg wrap, etc. All the veggies.
Hello, my name is Jane Fleming, and I work at Portage District Library in Portage, MI. My title there is STEAM Initiatives Coordinator and I am in charge of our digital lab and also the new MakerSpace that we will be constructing over the next year. I work for both Adult and the Youth Departments.
I decided to join this community because most of my experience has been in education as a teacher, and I would like to connect with more librarians and media specialists. Also, all of us are always on the lookout for more ideas and knowledge and I can tell that I will be able to find a lot here.
My dream for the future of libraries would be that they will be a buzzing hub of creation, collaboration, diversity and innovation, helping all communities thrive.
My favorite breakfast would be a vegetable scramble with fresh fruit on the side, and fresh-squeezed orange juice.
Iām Brandi Burton. Iām the Teen Services Coordinator for the East Baton Rouge Parish Library System. I wanted to join this community because our Teen Servicesā librarians are always looking for new STEM programs for the tweens/teens. I would love for everyone to love libraries as much as I do because then everyone would work very hard to make them awesome. My favorite breakfast foods are scrambled eggs and waffles.
Hi Paula! How did I not know we both have a deep affinity for breakfast bagels (along with exploration and whimsy)?
Library = second responder
Hi from Homer, Kari!
Hi all,
I work at the Windham Public Library in Windham, Maine. Iām the childrenās librarian there.
Iām hoping to get some new STEAM ideas from this program. Iām feeling a little burnt out, so Iām hoping this will help me feel reinspired.
I dream that libraries will continue to be places people come to learn and we find a way to do so that still respects the lessons we are learning from the pandemic.
Iām an eggs, bacon and toast kind of gal. Scrambled with peppers and cheese for the eggs, please.
Hello,
My name is Katie Pendley. I work at Pioneer Library System in their Norman, OK Central branch. I am a childrenās librarian and do live and digital STEAM programming.
I joined this community to get more insight on running successful STEAM programs.
My dream for libraries is that they continue to grow and change to keep up with the needs of individual communities. I would like to see everyone visit their local library.
My favorite breakfast food is eggs benedict. Yum yum.
Yay! So glad Oregon is representing. Any interest in writing up a blog post about this adventure for our Childrenās Services Division? It can be short or long . . .
Hi! Iām lucky to work at 2 libraries right now - as a Youth Services Assistant in Des Plaines, IL & as a Branch Assistant in Evanston, IL. Iāve been doing STEAM programs for a couple of years and am super excited to learn from you all - looks like thereās a treasure trove of fun & innovative ideas Iāll try to emulate. Recently, to coincide with our summer reading program āReading Colors Your Worldā at Evanston, and just for a fun project at Des Plaines, I developed a āColor Your Roomā light-up cube using paper circuits (simplifying the original project I found on Volt Paper Scissors). Iād done other paper circuits stuff before, but this seemed like a fun new way to engage. Click the link for a video :). https://photos.app.goo.gl/SXKGVbKAeGhtB9V17

Hello!
I am Nicole Harding. I am a Librarian and Youth Services Coordinator for the South Fayette Township Library in Morgan PA.
Our patron base loves all things STEAM and so do I. I joined to learn additional skills and techniques to improve programs for the children of our community.
A dream for the future of libraries would be to find a way for the ānon-believersā in libraries to step inside and see all the wonderful things we can bring to community members of all ages.
My favorite breakfast food is a well made Eggs Benedict with grilled tomatoes.
My favorite STEAM activity for children is making Slime Worms. Itās a lot of prep work, but so cool and both kids and adults love it.
oooh what are Slovak pancakes?
Wow, itās wonderful to see so many new folks!
I have so many new breakfast ideasā¦
